jonzac sous pref mairie n567 CDCHS V.Sabadel site

The castle of Jonzac is the symbol of the town. It's set up on a rocky hill, it dominates the river "La Seugne" and its valley.

The edifice knew the assaults of the Hundred Years War, the Huguenots during the religious war, the rebels during the French Revolution. The fortress was transformed at the XVIIth century on a beautiful seigniorial home with immaculate decorations. The local council and subprefecture set themselves up inside the building at the XIXth century and were always attached to preserve this rock setting.

Let yourself be told this millennium of story during the guided tour of this edifice and first travel the wedding room, where appear the paintings of the different lords of Jonzac, then the local council's room and finally the theatre Napoléon III.
